CLEVELAND, Va. (WCYB) — A project that obtained funding through the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program had its ribbon cutting in Russell County on Wednesday.

The regional industrial park known as “Project Reclaim” opened on a 160-acre site after being awarded $5 million following its application in 2017.

“Project Reclaim is in a great position to host new economic development and provide jobs in the coalfields region,” said Congressman Morgan Griffith. “Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program funding helped turn this location from an abandoned coal processing plant to an industrial site. I look forward to the opportunities it will bring to the people of Russell County.”

“We expect to see hundreds of people driving to work here very soon,” said Virginia Energy Deputy Director Will Clear. “Land where coal was processed for many decades is getting another chance to serve Russell County as a highly competitive industrial site.”
